February Vacation Puzzlers
It's cold and snowing and you've got nothing to do! Here are some boredom busters to keep your brain working over vacation!
Math Computation Fun (you may use a pencil and paper, but NO calculators)
1. Write your age. Add 90 to it. Cross off the first digit and add it to what is left. Subtract 9 from this number (if you are over age 10, add 9 rather than subtracting). What did you get?
2. Write your age. Multiply your age by 3. Add 1. Multiply by 3. Add your age. What did you get? Cross off the last digit of that number and you'll have your age.
3. Write a number. Add 6. Multiply the sum by 2. Subtract the original number. Subtract the original number again. Subtract 8. What do you get?

Logical Thinking Problems
5. Amy is sitting in her car. She starts it up and drives west in a straight line a quarter of a mile. When she stops the car, she is facing east. How can that be?
6. I live on the 15th floor of an apartment building. My friend, Emily, comes to visit me every Saturday. Last year she would always ride the elevator to the 7th floor and walk up the rest of the way. This year she rides the elevator to the 9th floor and the walks the rest of the way. Why does she do this? (Additional clue: On rainy days she rides the elevator all the way up to the 15th floor).

Make an Organized List
7. Mike needs to do chores everyday before he can play on his computer game. He is tired of doing them and he needs to change the order to make it more fun. He needs to take out the recycling, make his bed, feed the rabbit, and take the dog for a walk. How many different ways can he do them in if he always takes the dog out for a walk last?
8. Mike got to have a sleepover and had 4 children sleep over. They want to play a video game that has to have 2 players. How many different teams could there be?
9. Mike and his friend were cleaning up after the sleepover. They were putting the couch cushions back and both found 85 cents but they had different coins. What coins did they each have?
10. Pete wanted to go get ice cream. He wanted a sundae with two toppings. They had M&Ms, peanut butter cups, sprinkles, and whip cream. How many possible topping combinations could he have? List them all.
