We are here:
Massachusetts
Third grade focuses on Massachusetts for Social Studies. We start the year looking at maps and discovering facts about each region of the state. We will then go back and learn about the history of the state starting with the first people that lived here, the Wampanoag Indians. We will move on to the oldest English residents, the Pilgrims. We will move up to the North Shore and Boston and learn about the Puritans. We will learn about colonial times during our study of The American Revolution. The children will also focus on famous folks that come from our state throughout the year. The last unit of study will be local history. We have traditionally gone a field trip to downtown Plymouth and learned about our town's rich history. I do enjoy our Social Studies curriculum. It is a lot of fun to teach!
